We took the kids to Staten Island Children’s Museum and it was a wonderful experience. We visited on a Saturday and it was surprisingly less busy than we thought, which was a good surprise. The museum has 3-stories of exhibits to play, with scheduled walk-in workshop for crafts.

We’ve been to many Children’s museums, what’s special about this museum is the live bug exhibition, you get to see many bug in their natural habitat as well as hard working bees making honey.

There isn’t much play space for crawling babies, there’s a small crawling zone on the upper floor and only space that is carpeted is the sea of boats section. However, there are still lots of stairs in the exhibition therefore the babies must be carefully watched. As well, the section isn’t dedicated for babies, there will be many older kids playing which may be dangerous for a small baby as well.

The museum is located right beside many gardens, such as the Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden. It is very beautiful and make it a full day trip touring the gardens after playing at the museum. Remember to bring bug spray if you are planning to visit the gardens.
We really enjoyed the Staten Island Children’s Museum, and would recommend it to anyone, especially if you have a bug lover at home.
