NYC Kids Travel Guide – FREE Places to Play
New York City is one of the most visited places in the world, it is so busy and fast paced, yet so beautiful nonetheless. Where do you go to find a play space hidden behind a bookshelf? A dance on piano? A gigantic teddy bear? or a Elvis M&M? Visiting with young kids in a busy city like NYC can be challenging though, here’s a guide I compiled of the best places to play in NYC and also give you a tour of each, better yet, all of these places are FREE!

CAMP, a family experience store
Camp store has 5 locations, 3 in New York, 1 in Connecticut and 1 in Texas. We went to the one on 5th Avenue in New York. The play space is hidden behind a shelf, which is so cool to walk through the secret passageway to get to the play space.
In the play space, there are lots of merchandise for sale, including toys, crafts, books, stuffed animals, and more. There are also plenty to play, such as a vintage car, a bunk bed equipped with a tube slide, two kid sized arcade machines, and more.
You can also do a craft there for a fee.
FAO Schwarz
FAO is a 2 story toy store located at Rockefeller Center, it is every kid’s toy dream come true. It has all kinds of different toys you can imagine, including build-a-bear, American Girl Dolls, lots of super hero and TV/Movie characters, race cars, robots, and more!
There’s also a dance on piano for play, hopefully they bring back the FAO Mart soon, it is a shopping area where kids have a blast shopping for toy groceries.
Line Friends New York Times Square Store
Line Friends Store is located at Times Square, you see a giant teddy bear as soon as you walk in the store. It has all kinds of different merchandise in the Line Friends characters. It also has many full sized characters that kids love!
M&M’s World
M&M’s world is located in Times Square, it has everything you can think for in M&M form, including chocolate, clothing, plush animals, pencils & notebooks, and more. You can also find out your own M&M color on the second floor, and the store is equipped with an Elvis M&M.
The LEGO Store
There are many different LEGO store in New York City, under normal circumstances, you can find all kinds of difference LEGOs available for play in the store. You can also make your own mosaic for a fee, where you will have a LEGO picture of yourself to take home.
